Not many children in our country know the love of a mother. They feel very disconnected from their own family. They are dressed and sometimes fed by their mother. Took to daycare and dropped off at 6 am. They are fed, potty trained and loved (but most likely not) by minimally paid employees. They probably don’t even see their siblings during the day let alone interact with them. Usually at 6 pm a very tired mother picks up her children, pulls through the drive-thru at McDonald’s, drops the kids off for some dance or sports classes, picks them up again, goes home to sit in front of the TV, give the kids a bath and put them to bed. This is an existence not a life.
Where is a connection with mother and father supposed to take place? It’s no wonder kids don’t listen to their parents. It’s because parents don’t listen to their kids. One of these days the kids will quit trying and the rift will continue to grow. It doesn’t matter if you take them to church three times a week. If they don’t have you they will reject your God, your parenting and you. Can you blame them? Kids have chauffeurs, chefs, financiers, and a hotel staff. They never had parents in the first place.
I see kids all day long who don’t know how to behave. In fact, it is most of them. If you will notice kids that talk back and disrespect their parents, teachers or anyone else in authority. What kind of life will they have? Their role models are movie stars, pro sports players, singers and what kind of role model are they likely to be? Our world is in serious trouble. Our kids will be too if we don’t figure out God’s way to raise children. Sometimes that requires sacrifice of the ideals of the world.
There are too many people in “The Village” raising our children and we are letting them. I am finding a reversal of the norm among my spiritual friends. I hear them telling me that God has told them to come home and homeschool their children. The Bible instructs us to teach our children. I see mothers coming home to raise their own children. This is the direction God is taking his people. The problem is if we don’t instill our beliefs, morals and values into our children then the world is going to do it. It definitely won’t be anything I want to see in my kids.
Many people have called me a failure and lazy because I have stayed home to raise my children. I have been a single mother since a month before my last child was born. I have lived off of the (sometimes) little bit of child support I get, odd jobs, and the provision of God. God’s provision comes in the form of His people. Sometimes it’s a bag of hand-me-downs other times it’s gas, diapers or a gift card. I would not have made it if it weren’t for God. Many, many times I have not had what I needed and I prayed. God always provided the things that were important.
If we can live without it then we probably do. I have learned ways to save money, spend money wisely and make do on next to nothing. God has directed me in raising my children. I hope to be able to share these things with you. My prayers are for you to find hope, joy and peace in your life WITH your family around you.
